Missouri S&T has been given a $1.66 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to provide clean battery-powered transit to Kansas City, MO. U.S. Sen. Kit Bond helped secure the federal funds in the 2008 omnibus appropriations bill to fund research and pilot projects for alternative energy vehicles and plug-in hybrids here at S&T. The funds will go to support design and infrastructure.
Like many of you have done these past few weeks, I recently made a trip out to my friendly neighborhood MS&T bookstore to inquire about a book. The item on my agenda was a property tables booklet, a plain-Jane booklet no thicker than a standard comic book, with numbers in them that would mean nothing to anyone outside of Toomey Hall. Surely something like this wouldn’t cost me more than the latest issue of “Spiderman meets Obama”. To my amazement the tiny book would run me $30! Outrageous, considering I could of put a hefty down payment on Killzone 2 with that kind of bling. My curiosity as a journalist lead me to find out what books’ price tags caused poor saps like me to have brain spasms.
