Last week, the Obama administration made clear their intentions to reverse a former Bush regulation on abortion. This may not seem like a regulation that affects you, and most likely at the college age it does not. However, the reversal of this regulation will affect most of us far more than we realize.
Once again the anti-child and the anti-choice camps are fighting it out in the streets. This time the spark was a speech by President Barack Obama in which he dared to publicly say: “Thanks to all of you at Planned Parenthood for all the work that you are doing for women all across the country and for families all across the country.” By him publicly stating that he wishes to support Planned Parenthood, give our children “comprehensive sex education in our schools,” and contraception information that is “factually accurate,” he has declared the office of the president to be amongst the anti-child supporters.
January 19 was President George W. Bush’s last full day in office. Usually this is the “lame duck” period of the President’s term, but for Bush he decided to work. The last good action that Bush did was commuting the sentences of former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who fired on a drug smuggler as he attempted to return to Mexico.
Less than 40 days before Election Day, Senators Barack Obama and John McCain met for the much-anticipated debate at the University of Mississippi that almost didn’t happen on September 26, 2008. McCain announced on Monday that he was suspending his campaign, and pledged to postpone Friday’s debate, saying that "I understand how important this debate is and I’m very hopeful, but I also have to put the country first." After hearing that, Obama continued his plan to attend whether McCain made an appearance or not, leading McCain to announce Friday morning that he would attend.
I didn’t intend for this article to be about Sarah Palin. In fact, I was aiming more for a humorous run-down of the day’s events, with an editorial stance. However, I will warn you right now: I’m slightly biased and yes, this article will mostly be about John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin.
