Like many of you have done these past few weeks, I recently made a trip out to my friendly neighborhood MS&T bookstore to inquire about a book. The item on my agenda was a property tables booklet, a plain-Jane booklet no thicker than a standard comic book, with numbers in them that would mean nothing to anyone outside of Toomey Hall. Surely something like this wouldn’t cost me more than the latest issue of “Spiderman meets Obama”. To my amazement the tiny book would run me $30! Outrageous, considering I could of put a hefty down payment on Killzone 2 with that kind of bling. My curiosity as a journalist lead me to find out what books’ price tags caused poor saps like me to have brain spasms.

1) Woe to those who chose EE as your major. Starting at #3 on my list is “Electrical Transients in Power Systems”, 2nd edition, by Allan Greenwood. This hefty little bugger will suck $212.50 straight out of your veins if you are not careful. My advice, change majors!
2) Coming in at #2 is Halliday, Resnick, and Walker’s “Fundamentals of Physics”, 8th edition. Not many of the books I looked at had the privilege of passing the $200 mark, but at $213.35 this exceeds expectations.
3) Finally at $277.20 are Hibbeler’s “Engineering Mechanics: Statics & Dynamics”, 11th edition
Books that come neatly shrink wrapped together. The only thing that could do more damage to your psyche then having to pay for these books are watching the Cardinals actually win the Superbowl!
But the good news is, if your hurting for cash “IEP 001 English Sounds & Spelling” will cost you next to nothing, in fact its free! So get back to basics and relearn English, at the very least it’ll keep your wallet safe.
