A very long time ago, a beautiful princess was born but had to run away from her evil step-mother. She is rescued by forty dragons and lives with them. However, an evil spell put upon her by a magic ring causes her to sleep. She sleeps until her true love kisses her awake. The evil queen realizes her plans have foiled, and as punishment she must put on heated iron shoes and dance in them until she falls over dead. The rest of the story’s characters live happily ever after.

This sounds like an interesting story. What you have just read are elements from the lesser known but original versions of the story of Snow White. Luckily for those of us in Rolla this Saturday, we won’t have to watch the evil queen dance until she is dead. Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall continues their Family Film series with Disney’s classic Snow White. This classic, first introduced in 1937 is considered one of the best films of all time, and the only animated film (other than Disney’s Fantasia) to make AFI’s top 100 greatest American films of all time. Snow White depicts the story of the pretty princess, her forest friends, seven dwarfs, and the evil queen in her quest to be the fairest in all the land. If you have never seen this classic, return to your childhood and watch the film through Disney’s (less disturbing) rose colored glasses.
The box office opens at 10a.m. with the show starting at 11a.m. Pizza and soda are also provided after the show for the small fee of $2. Enjoy the Family Film series and Disney’s Snow White this Saturday as Leach Theatre welcomes you to join the fun.
