Obama Supports Anti-Child Organization, Planned Parenthood! PDF Print E-mail

Once again the anti-child and the anti-choice camps are fighting it out in the streets.  This time the spark was a speech by President Barack Obama in which he dared to publicly say: “Thanks to all of you at Planned Parenthood for all the work that you are doing for women all across the country and for families all across the country.” By him publicly stating that he wishes to support Planned Parenthood, give our children “comprehensive sex education in our schools,” and contraception information that is “factually accurate,” he has declared the office of the president to be amongst the anti-child supporters.

President Obama’s stance is considered evil by most anti-choice organizations.  In the words of Obama, “We know that five men don’t know better than women and their doctors what’s best for a woman’s health.”  When he said this he was referring to Gonzales v. Carhart, the Supreme Court decision to uphold the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act signed into law by former President Bush.  By wishing to overturn many of the current abortion laws Obama has clearly become, as one nurse says: “a support for infanticide.”
While President Obama’s speech made him sound like a hero towards the anti-child camp, it helps others understand what exactly these politicians and organizations are referring to legally.  First off, what is Roe vs. Wade?  According to Wikipedia, the most factually accurate website on the planet (cough cough), Roe vs. Wade was a Supreme Court decision in 1973 to declare most abortion laws unconstitutional due to an invasion of privacy. However, during his presidency, President George W. Bush signed into law the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. This Act prevents abortions between 18 and 26 weeks of the pregnancy, by defining Partial-Birth Abortions as: “(warning slightly graphic) an abortion in which a physician deliberately and intentionally vaginally delivers a living, unborn child’s body until either the entire baby’s head is outside the body of the mother, or any part of the baby’s trunk past the navel is outside the body of the mother and only the head remains inside the womb.”  Many lower courts challenged this Act, claiming it to be unconstitutional.  These challenges resulted in the Supreme Court Case Gonzales vs. Carhart in which the Supreme Court ruled that the Partial Birth Abortion Act was perfectly constitutional.
This was all done during the previous administration with the anti-choice philosophy being very popular. Now, with a large democratic force in the government, the anti-child philosophy has managed to take hold. There is no doubt that President Obama will overturn this Act, which may or may not benefit the medical communities.  In the end though, it doesn’t matter what people believe - only what political force is currently in charge.
