The MineShaft Returns PDF Print E-mail

After a year-long disappearance, the MineShaft resumes its printing for the Missouri S&T campus. The MineShaft is an alternative campus newspaper that began underground in November 2006. Many people may be wondering what the newspaper has been doing for the past year. The organization has been doing many things in preparation of continuing its lifespan on campus.

First, the MineShaft became a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) in June of 2007  which allowed the organization to become funded by Missouri S&T’s Student Council. The funding process, however, was not as easy as it appeared.
The first issue regarding Student Council funding is knowing from which fund to apply. After asking reliable sources, the MineShaft believed all printing supplies could be conjoined in the Equipment Contingency fund. This information was false, and the mistake cost the newspaper 4 months of printing time, holding up potential printing until February of 2008.

After the MineShaft budget was approved by the Student Council body, it was not clear how to order supplies. After much searching, the organization finally found their answer and were well on their way to ordering printing supplies. However, this stage of asking, followed by being ignored, followed by hassling, followed by excessive passing of the buck took up another 2.5 months, holding up potential printing until April of 2008.

Once the light at the end of the tunnel could be seen and printing was in sight for the MineShaft, a snag came up. Student Council along with the Student Activities Finance Board decided to cut the already approved budget because the MineShaft wasn’t producing any newspapers due to the aforementioned lack of printing supplies. It was also told that nothing could be ordered until August of 2008 for budgetary reasons, thus holding up potential printing until August of 2008.

As it is now August 2008, the MineShaft now has their new printing supplies and has returned in print  and in electronic PDF for your convenience.
