Today was no exception: the usual “hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers, and blue moons…pots of gold and rainbows and me red balloons!”, was playing through my head as I ate my favorite cereal. But as I ruminated on this delicious dish, I came to see something so obvious, that it was hard not to notice. There in my bowl of cereal occupying roughly 75% of my milks surface area were the “less-delicious” pieces of Lucky’s charms. At the moment that I peered ever closer at my bowl of cereal, I was instantly stunned to see that these 4 shapes did not resemble the marshmallow goodness’, but instead bore the symbols of what seemed like Christianity. Among these symbols were” the Icthyus (in roman times, this fish secretly marked where Christians were congregating), secondly there was a three-leaf clover (a symbol used in medieval Ireland to represent the Holy Trinity), church bells, and crosses. Putting together the pieces, I realized that the Christian symbolism coupled with the Irish theme of Lucky Charms were direct correlations to the spread of this religion to Ireland through our very own patron saint! Was it sheer coincidence then, that at the exact time of my discovery, I had also found that St.Patrick had been “taken” from his coveted place? I think NOT! Could it be that someone else beat me the St.Patrick’s message spoken to me beyond the grave, through my breakfast food? I needed answers and needed them fast. |
